Mathematics
At Yarraman Oaks Primary, maths sessions are aligned with the Victorian curriculum and are organised around the three content strands of Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability.
At Yarraman Oaks we do not see math as simply the organisation of simple numbers and equations. Its is the representation of real-life problems by using predetermined symbols and formula. Through life we experience mathematics and through mathematics we can explore real life concepts.
We strive to create meaningful math by showing students its applications in everyday task. Math groups, learning worms and investigations are tools that aid us in delivering a personalised learning approach that is differentiated to each student’s ability.
This approach fosters the development of students who are self-motivated and confident mathematicians through the implementation of investigations as well as explicit formal instruction. Numeracy skills and knowledge are explicitly taught so that students can efficiently and creatively apply their understanding and reasoning in a variety of situations during investigations and inquiry.
